invited to ‘learn the ropes’ by the then temporary editor, Tom Ayre
beginning in March that year.

Sheila Hogarth, Westgate. Sheila has been with the Gazette almost from its beginning in 1987. As the Office Manager, she is in touch with all aspects of the Company’s activities and, not least, is a frequent and welcoming voice on the phone. She is an accomplished shorthand typist who has an invaluable role in computing and transposing much of the incoming text, photographs and finished proof into the newspaper, ready for final printing. Village news in the “What’s On Column” is another of her responsibilities. Sheila also keeps in touch with national and overseas readers, ensuring renewal of subscriptions. Her cheerful, positive presence in the shop is greatly valued in helping customers with photocopying needs, printing orders and purchase of stationery, cards etc.
