John Hobbs, Weardale Gazette, 1995 – 1998.

John Hobbs, who lives at Daddry Shield, joined the Gazette as a working journalist of almost 40 years, starting his career with the Newcastle Journal before moving to Manchester and London with the Daily Express and Daily Mirror. For 15 years he worked as a producer and reporter with BBC radio before joining the Sunderland Echo production team. After editing 33 editions of the Weardale Gazette during a three-year stay, the time came for John to move on. He saw the Gazette through a period of change during the introduction of new electronic technology and displayed his professionalism as a journalist in every issue he edited.
