Anita Atkinson, Weardale Gazette, 1998 – present.

Anita Atkinson of Harperley replaced Tom Ayre as editor of the Gazette in 1998. Her full commitment, boundless energy and genuine interest in the Dale have raised the profile of the paper remarkably. Her friendly rapport with the community has encouraged individuals and organisations to feed news, letters and opinions to the Gazette as never before. Working ‘all hours’, she has succeeded in giving a balanced view of Dale’s life. Her personal regret is that there is never enough space to reflect this more fully.
